 Hwange National Park

Hwange National Park is the largest Park in Zimbabwe occupying 14 650 square kilometres in the northwest of the country and not far from the Mighty Victoria Falls, HwangeNational Park provides some of Africa's best wildlife viewing opportunities. It is Zimbabwe's most accessible and most wildlife packed national park.

Hwange National Park was established as a National Park in 1929. The park is located in Matabeleland North Province of Zimbabwe. Its about 1 hour drive south of the mighty Victoria Falls. HwangeNational Park occupies a land area which is approximately 14650 km2 (5654.9 square miles), which is equivalent to the size of Belgium.

Hwange is a paradise for animals with about 100 identified species of mammals and 412 bird species. Even though Hwange has such a diverse range of animals, the park is most famous for its large herds of elephant populations. HwangeNational Park has between 20000 - 300000 elephants. Most of Zimbabwe’s protected animal species are found in the park. The park has also been documented to have the largest population of wild dogs found in Africa.

Hwange National Park has some of the largest herds of antelopes, zebras, buffaloes, giraffes and its elephant population is one of the largest in the world. The park is also teaming with predators such as lions, leopards, hyenas, jackals and wild dogs.

The Park has three distinctive Camps and administrative offices at Robins, Sinamatella and the major one at Main Camp. HwangeNational Park is Africa’s Wilderness Haven


The best time to visit the Park is in the dry season ( August to October) when animals congregate around water holes (most of which are artificially pumped), Hwange National Park has some of the largest herds of antelopes, zebras, buffaloes, giraffes and its elephant population is one of the largest in the world.


Ivory Lodge ****

Ivory Lodge is set on its own 6 000 acre conservancy bordering Hwange National Park which is the largest National Park in Zimbabwe – equivalent in size to Wales.
